Financial Engineering (Experimental Program of Fintech)

 

Ⅰ. Introduction
At present, financial companies continue to integrate deeply with digital and networked technologies, which has profoundly changed the production mode, industrial organization form and competition pattern of the global financial industry. The new industrial and technological revolution led by big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, block chain and mobile internet have led to the continuous breaking and reconstruction of financial discipline boundaries and research paradigms. Drawing on the idea of "integrated science" for undergraduate training from Peking University, Princeton University and Harvard University, Financial Engineering (Experimental Program of FinTech) integrates the dominant disciplines of Beijing Technology and Business University, mainly including Financial Engineering, Big Data Application and Management, Intelligent Accounting. 
In order to train talents for financial enterprises in big data environment, we actively introduce high-level faculties at home and abroad, implement the four-year consistent "undergraduate tutorial system" and teaching model with innovative practice as the core. We also integrate into the international curriculum contents and strong the cooperation of industry-university-research.
Ⅱ. Cultivation Goals
Financial Engineering (Experimental Program of FinTech) aims to break the barriers between traditional disciplines, cultivate cross innovative financial application talents with an international perspective, who are familiar with financial practice, and also able to apply big data analysis technology and artificial intelligence to modern financial services. 
Ⅲ. Features & Advantages
The Experimental Program of Fintech implements the all-round cross-cutting concept to build up the teaching staffs, set the curriculum system, integrate dominant disciplines, and select high-quality students. Compared with the previous enrollments, the Experimental Program of Fintech emphasizes on mathematic, English and programming skills for the students. We form the first two experimental classes by two channels: recruitment from outside Beijing and internal selection in BTBU. The training system of experimental program has the following characteristics:
1. International training mode:The Experimental Program of Fintech will increase the proportion of bilingual and English courses and opportunities of international exchanges. We also strengthen students' scientific practical ability through scientific research competitions, academic seminars, and short-term exchange programs. Our students own strong competitiveness in the existing"2+2", "3+1" and international exchange programs of BTBU; we will further develop international exchange programs of finance and technology to perfect the international training model of experimental program.
2. Modular curriculum system:With the goal of application of big data in financial scenarios, breaking through the "professional" training concept, creating a "modular" curriculum system, and achieving personalized training programs. Experts from well-known universities and enterprises at home and abroad are hired as visiting professors to hold various short-term courses, such as cutting-edge lectures, online micro-programs, and summer programs. Under the guidance of the instructors, students of the experimental program can flexibly design their own training programs.
3. Academic Tutor System: Relying on the internal and external practice training bases of BTBU, the experimental program students are equipped with on-campus academic mentors and off-campus practice mentors. On-campus academic mentor guides the student to write papers from the junior year and promotes them to learn actively during the research process. The off-campus practice mentors are the front-line professionals with research and development and project demands from the real industry, who will lead students to participate in the design of practical problem solutions, write research reports jointly, and promote the transformation of the achievements.
Ⅳ. Faculty
The experimental program builds the development-oriented faculty team which is a group of excellent teachers, oversea Ph.Ds and post-doctoral, high-level talents. We own 14 full-time teachers at present, including 1 professor and 6 associate professors. All of them are PhDs and graduate from well-known domestic universities such as Peking University, Renmin University of China, Nankai University, Central University of Finance and Economics, and famous overseas universities such as Duke University, Loughborough University, Kyoto University. Japan.
Ⅴ. Course Modules
Basic course module includes Macroeconomics and Microeconomics, Python programming, C++ programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, Econometrics, Finance, Financial Technology, Professional English, etc. 
Course module of Financial Market includes Investment, Introduction to Financial Engineering, Financial Risk Management, Quantitative Investment Experiment, etc. 
Course module of Financial Institutions includes Corporate Finance, Commercial Bank Management, Insurance Actuarial, Financial Supervision, etc. 
Course module of Computing Technology includes Modern Cryptography, Software Engineering, Blockchain Technology and Applications, Artificial Intelligence Principles and Applications, etc.
Course module of Technology Application includes Regulatory Technology, Financial Applications Based on Big Data, Financial Data Mining and Business Intelligence, etc.
VI. Practical Teaching
The practice teaching mainly relies on three mature and professional experimental platforms of Financial Engineering, Accounting and Big Data Management. The laboratories of Financial Engineering and Accounting are mainly concentrated in the "National Economic Management Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center" and "National Virtual Simulation Teaching Center-Liberal Arts Practice Center", which own the open discussion activity rooms and the comprehensive software laboratories. All computers are equipped with statistical and measurement software such as Eviews, Stata, Matlab, Python and SPSS. The financial accounting manual bookkeeping practice area is equipped with manual bookkeeping workbenches, calculators and various seals, account books, and reports; the computer simulation practice area is equipped with accountants, auditor seats, reception desks, computers, office equipment such as printers and calculators are also equipped with special audit transaction management software; the software engineering laboratory has complete infrastructure and excellent network multimedia teaching environment. It now has 90 high-configuration microcomputers, 2 servers based on Window and Linux, and other experimental equipment. The laboratory has rich software resources, including various high-level language development kits, database development kits, and various application software.
VII. Employment and Further education
 The Experimental Program of Fintech focuses on cultivating high-level innovative talents, and pays more attention to the interdisciplinary, theoretical innovation and scientific research capabilities. We strive to keep the annual rate of going to graduate school and abroad to be 80%, and deliver high-quality fintech students to Peking University, Renmin University of China, Johns Hopkins University, and University of California, San Diego etc. We will achieve the goal of building a high-level research university with distinctive characteristics.
